Environment minister calls for ‘ultra-efficient lighting’

An environment minister has praised the lighting industry for pursuing energy-efficient technology and called for more promotion of low-energy lighting to consumers.

In a debate on incandescent lamps, Conservative minister Richard Benyon said it is essential to encourage the development of ‘ultra-efficient lighting’, because of the major role of lighting in global energy consumption.

Lighting represents around 12 per cent of electricity usage from households, and around 25 per cent of the electricity used by the commercial sector. The Australian Government recognises that this is an area where energy savings can be easily made by replacing inefficient incandescent lights with more cost-effective and energy efficient alternatives.

The Fluorescent Alternative

Here is a case study for demonstrating that fluorescents can replace HID high bays in storage applications from LUX Magazine.
