Osram Sylvania wins race to offer 100W-equivalent LED A-lamp

100W equivalent led bulb comparison

Beginning at Lightfair International (LFI) earlier this year, it became clear that the major lighting vendors were in a heated race to be first to market with a 100W-equivalent LED A-lamp. CFL (compact fluorescent lamp) & LED lamp comparison review

Compact fluorescents have come a long way from the flickering, unflattering light they once were. CFL's have a lamp life of about 10,000 hours and use approximately 80% less energy than an equivalent incandescent.

Long-life lamps

CFLs are energy-efficient and long lasting, but they aren’t without their problems:

Wireless data from every light bulb

LED wifi

LED luminaires can replace Wi-Fi – by transmitting data at high frequency. The first commercial installation of a visible light communication network has been completed in the US – and researchers reckon it’s the next big thing. Mark Faithfull reports. In the far corners of the world, research teams are pushing forward an emerging area of technology known as Visible Light Communications (VLC), which uses the rapid flickering of advanced LEDs to encode data.
