There's no such thing as a free LIGHT

VEET Scheme no free light

Understanding the scheme

The scheme is designed to facilitate a shift to more energy efficient lighting technologies. Resellers and consumers can negotiate with utilities to sell credits representing energy saved by the installation of new energy efficient lighting technologies.

Shipment of LED street lights to surpass 17 million by 2020

Shipment of LED street lights to surpass 17 million by 2020

According to a new report from Pike Research, a part of Navigant’s Energy Practice, the market for street lighting is in a period of dramatic transformation. New LED options and the advent of networked systems for central monitoring and control are enabling a range of intelligent management and energy savings options. According to the report, “Smart Street Lighting,” unit shipments of LED lamps for street lights will rise from fewer than 3 million in 2012 to more than 17 million in 2020.

Fluorescent Lamp Disposal: What Are The Options

Fluorescent Lamp Disposal: What Are The Options

For all the energy fluorescent lights save, they come with a little string attached. At the end of their lives, the lamps can have a serious but often overlooked impact on the environment: the release of mercury into the environment each time one of the fragile lamps breaks.

So what are the best options for fluorescent lamp disposal?

How green are your LEDs?

How green are your LEDs?

LEDs have all the key elements of a ‘sustainable’ lighting product. Low energy consumption is relative to light output and long life when compared with traditional light sources. Sure, there’s a price to pay for these attributes, but the sustainability argument looks to be won.

Is it time to take stock? Should the lighting industry take a step back and take a more detailed look at the lighting phenomenon from the electronics industry that is the light emitting diode?

One in six firms wants more efficient lighting

Nearly half of the companies surveyed by BMG Research on behalf of the Department of Energy and Climate Change said they had already installed ‘replacement lighting or lighting controls’ – although the survey did not ask when or what type.

Six per cent said they had plans to upgrade their lighting, with large businesses more than twice as likely to be planning changes as small ones.
