The Essential Services Commission (ESC) is introducing new product approval requirements for LED products installed under Schedule 21 and Schedule 34. All LED products will be required to provide evidence of claimed lifetime, and certain types of LED downlights will also need to provide evidence of compatibility with control gear (transformers) designed for use with halogen lamps.

Apparently Osram Sylvania has hit the finish line first with some Lowe's retailers already selling the company's Sylvania Ultra LED 20W A21 solid-state lighting (SSL) product.

According to a new report from Pike Research, a part of Navigant’s Energy Practice, the market for street lighting is in a period of dramatic transformation. New LED options and the advent of networked systems for central monitoring and control are enabling a range of intelligent management and energy savings options. According to the report, “Smart Street Lighting,” unit shipments of LED lamps for street lights will rise from fewer than 3 million in 2012 to more than 17 million in 2020.
